Batman's Owl Godfather - Chapter 300
Gotham.
It was night when Bruce returned to the city.
As soon as he landed, he immediately felt uncomfortable.
The city was filled with fog, but the air was stuffy. The usual sea breeze smell in Gotham Port was replaced by an indescribable sticky feeling.
“What happened?”
Katum looked around and saw some homeless people huddled on the side of the road, but no other pedestrians.
Bruce couldn’t understand the situation either.
Although an accident in Gotham is not something worth making a fuss about, the current situation is so strange that it is unbelievable.
There are no people on the street, only homeless people?
Bruce walked over and came to a homeless man. The man was curled up with his eyes closed and his body was swaying.
“Wake up, wake up!”
Bruce didn’t mind the bad smell of the homeless man and tried to push him awake.
However, no matter how hard he tried, the other party’s eyes never opened and he just kept mumbling some completely incomprehensible nonsense.
Bruce put the back of his hand on the other person’s forehead. His body temperature was on the high side, but it was within the normal range and would not burn him to the point of unconsciousness.
The other homeless people around were in the same situation.
“Something happened.”
Bruce stood up, and nanoparticles instantly wrapped his body, completing the suit.
“Run a full scan on me.”
He gave instructions to the auxiliary control intelligence of the suit.
After a while of scanning, the results came out quickly.
“How could it be!”
Bruce’s eyes suddenly opened wide. It showed that his immune cells had begun to proliferate in large numbers. There was no need to explain the meaning of this.
“There’s something wrong with the air!”
Bruce said, “Something like bacteria and viruses entered my body!”
Otherwise, his body’s immune system won’t begin to respond.
and–
The reaction speed was too fast, which was extremely abnormal.
Could it be the fog around it?
Fortunately, Bruce had just arrived here and hadn’t been breathing air for long, so he didn’t suffer as serious a condition as a homeless person.
Katum stood on Bruce’s shoulder. When he heard this, he didn’t say much. He immediately took out an owl-style gas mask from the feathers and put it on his head.
Bruce didn’t know when he prepared this thing.
The situation in Gotham is now before us, although there is no direct evidence that everything is related to Batwoman.
But considering her confident anti-Martian attitude before, it was hard for Bruce not to worry.
“Go to the Batcave!”
Bruce said, “I want to see how Batwoman is doing!”
…
When Bruce arrived at Wayne Manor, the surrounding environment was as dilapidated and gloomy as ever.
He opened the door and walked inside.
“Batwoman? Cousin Kate!”
Bruce shouted, but no one responded.
This is getting weirder.
He took the familiar route to the study. In the center of the study was a black piano.
Bruce opened the key cover and placed his strong fingers on the three keys.
In an instant, the bookshelf on the wall began to shake, and a dark crack gradually expanded. With the sound of mechanical operation, the mysterious entrance to the Batcave appeared in front of Bruce.
Bruce walked down. The tunnel of the Batcave was very dark. Katum turned on a small flashlight and could barely see the road ahead.
He finally made it down to the lowest level and entered the Batcave.
The Batcave is dark and damp, with huge stalactites hanging from the ceiling.
All kinds of high-tech equipment in the cave shone with a cold light, and the Bat fighter plane and Bat motorcycle were parked quietly.
Various information about Gotham kept popping up on the computer screen, and the sound of countless bats flapping their wings could be heard faintly in the shadows.
But, Batwoman isn’t here.
“strangeness.”
Bruce came to a monitor, which still displayed the last operation interface.
That was an all-round surveillance picture of Gotham City. This surveillance system was built by Batman and later inherited by Batwoman.
Bruce mobilized all the cameras, but could not find Kate’s shadow.
Not only that, he could clearly see that all the streets in Gotham City were shrouded in heavy fog. There were no pedestrians in sight, only scattered homeless people huddled in inconspicuous places on the streets.
Perhaps at this moment, Gotham’s crime rate is at its lowest in history.
“Could it be…”
Bruce had a guess.
Batwoman may have released a chemical gas targeting Martians, but what she didn’t expect was that nearly all of Gotham had been replaced by Martians.
As a result, except for the low-level homeless people, everyone else in the city of Gotham disappeared in an instant.
But is this possible?
Even Bruce felt that his guess was too ridiculous.
He told Katum about his guess, and Katum thought for a while and said, “I think the more outrageous the idea, the more likely it is to be close to the truth. Otherwise, you can’t explain the heavy fog in Gotham City.”
“Gotham gets foggy all the time.”
Bruce, an old Gothamite, certainly knows his hometown very well. There is no such thing as a port city without fog.
“If it was really cousin Kate who released the gas in Gotham, then I can guess where she went.”
Bruce said, “Naihe Island controls the city’s sewer pipes. There is a huge purifier inside. As long as the wind direction is correct and the purifier is turned on, the gas can be easily released to the entire city of Gotham!”
The most likely place for Batwoman is only there.
Bruce thought of this and said no more. He and Katum Apparated directly to Nahe Island.
…
When Bruce appeared on Nahe Island, the fog had become thicker.
The thick fog swallowed the whole city like a giant beast, and the night was like a heavy lead plate pressing on the top of the head.
In the fog, the dim street lights could only emit a faint halo, like the last gasp of a dying person.
Bruce tried to use magic to blow away the fog, but it was useless. The fog would automatically fill the blown area.
There was no way, he could only walk in the fog.
“Come, take this!”
Katum handed over a lantern.
“Where did you get these?” Bruce asked.
“Don’t worry about it, just take it, it’s more atmospheric this way.”
Bruce took the lantern helplessly, raised it to his head, and walked forward.
The fog was thick and visibility was extremely low. Every step Bruce took seemed to be stepping into an unknown abyss.
The fog was entwined and twisted around him, as if countless invisible hands were pulling at the corners of his clothes.
The surroundings were terribly silent, with only his footsteps echoing in the fog, but it seemed to be swallowed up by something, and it seemed hollow and weird.
The strange sounds that came from time to time were like painful groans, and under the cover of fog and darkness, they drilled into Bruce’s ears wantonly.
“What sound is it? It’s annoying.”
Katum hugged Bruce’s head and said dissatisfiedly.
“Are you scared?”
“How is that possible.” Katum shook his head, “I won’t be scared even if you are scared!”
“You can be stubborn as you like.”
Bruce held the lantern and continued to move forward.
Wait –
Bruce’s footsteps suddenly stopped, and a heavy breathing sound came from the fog.
The breathing sound was turbid and heavy, as if it was the breath of a demon gushing out from the depths of hell.
There is something in the fog!
Check out the correct version in 16-9 Book Bar!
Bruce stared at the thick fog in front of him and prepared for battle.
A huge figure gradually appeared in the fog. It was a hunched monster.
Its skin was like burnt leather, covered with hideous cracks, exuding a foul smell, and its eyes were cruel and bloodthirsty.
Martian!
Bruce recognized this monster, but why did it become like this?
The previous Martian, although ugly, was at least not disgusting.
But now——
The opponent’s uneven skin was covered with smelly pus, and the yellow-green mucus flowed out from the ruptured pus, like a sticky little snake slowly sliding down.
Disgusting, really disgusting!
At this time, the Martian in front of him had lost his mind, panting violently like a beast, and there was still a trace of mucus hanging on his uneven fangs.
Bruce could feel a stench coming towards him.
“Roar!!!”
The fog rolled violently with its roar, and the Martian suddenly pounced on him at an alarming speed, with its huge claws leaving deep marks on the ground.
Bruce dodged sideways, and took advantage of the moment when the monster missed, and kicked the monster’s waist.
This kick seemed to kick a piece of sticky rotten meat.
Bruce felt a sticky and rotten smell penetrate his nose through the sole of his shoe, and his stomach churned.
The Martian seemed to have no pain. After being kicked, he turned around quickly and let out an even more angry roar. The sound made Bruce’s ears buzz in the thick fog.
It pounced on Bruce again, this time faster, and Bruce could even see the hot air coming out of its bloody mouth that exuded a foul smell.
“The flames are blazing.” Bruce said softly.
The next second, a fierce flame broke out in his palm.
The flames wrapped around Bruce’s arms like a smart snake, instantly illuminating a small patch of thick fog around him.
Bruce’s entire arm was burning, and he punched the monster without hesitation.
This punch hit the target firmly and sank deeply into the Martian’s skin.
The part of the Martian touched by the flames made a “sizzling” sound, as if a wet rag was burning.
Bruce’s mind moved, and the flames on his arm spread to the Martian’s entire body.
Soon, the Martian was completely engulfed by the flames, and the raging fire wrapped its ugly and disgusting body tightly.
The flames licked every inch of the Martian’s skin frantically, and it let out a few last painful howls, which gradually weakened in the fog and were eventually replaced by the crackling sound of the burning flames.
“Huh–“
Bruce retracted his fist and used the flames to clean up the rotten flesh on it.
“It was a completely unpleasant battle.”
Katum flew to the ground and looked at the charred body of the Martian, which was still burning with embers.
“I roughly know what’s going on.” said the owl.
“I know that too,” Bruce said.
They guessed what happened almost at the same time.
Now there is no need to think too much, Batwoman must have released the chemical gas and achieved “amazing” results.
The ugly appearance of the Martians now is the best evidence.
“I clearly said that she would wait until I come back before releasing it, why can’t she wait for this little time?” Bruce sighed.
“Don’t blame your cousin.” Katum said, “Maybe she has some difficulties?”
For example, when Martians come to visit, they have to release chemical gas to save their lives.
“But this is…”
Forget it, Bruce won’t say it.
In fact, Batwoman’s chemical gas is successful. She developed it based on the genes of Martians, and now it has become a special weapon against Martians.
Apart from other things, Bruce originally thought that the two abilities of Martians that were most worthy of attention – Martian physique and telepathy, have now completely lost their threat.
The Martian physique that can be deformed, virtualized, and regenerated at will has become a pile of rotten meat.
The induction ability that can read people’s hearts and connect to the giant network of the mind has also become useless as Martians lose their minds.
This is indeed the credit of Batwoman.
Now Gotham has become half an empty city, and it is definitely not Batwoman’s fault.
If most of the residents of Gotham have become crazy Martians because of the gas, it can only mean that they have been Martians for a long time.
However –
Bruce still thinks that Batwoman did something wrong.
Her mistake is that since this gas cannot kill Martians immediately, but can only turn them into crazy monsters, she should not rush to release it.
Either improve the gas to kill Martians in an instant, or make a plan and think clearly about how to deal with the crazy monsters in the city.
Instead of turning Gotham into a ghost town like it is now.
What’s more, this gas seems to have a negative effect on humans.
“Bruce, don’t you think it’s strange?”
Katum flew to Bruce’s shoulder, “If there are such monsters wandering in the fog now, how come those homeless people we met on the street are fine?”
This is indeed a point worth thinking about.
Bruce thought about it and felt that there was only one explanation.
“Those homeless people also inhaled the gas, which made the Martians instinctively resist.”
He said, “You and I only inhaled a little bit, and then took protective measures, so we were attacked by them.”
This statement does make some sense, and Katum agreed.
“It is also possible that this fog obscured their vision.”
Katum said, “We can’t just see those homeless people. There must be a lot of survivors in Gotham, but they are all hiding.”
As for where they are hiding, they can’t find it now.
“Indeed.”
Bruce also felt that the situation was urgent. Although the people of Gotham City were used to being in dire straits, such a scene was still relatively rare.
Now that Batwoman was missing, Bruce couldn’t say what Gotham would become without the bat.
The most urgent thing was to find Batwoman back.
“Let’s go. Time waits for no one. Let’s go find cousin Kate.”
Bruce took a step forward, no longer caring about the charred corpse on the ground, and strode towards the purifier of Nahe Island.
